Allopurinol (xanthine oxidase inhibitor) is a neuroprotective agent that prevents the formation of free radicals, which can lead to cell death. It reduces the production of uric acid in the body. Accumulation of uric acid can lead to gout or the formation of kidney stones. Allopurinol is also used to lower uric acid levels in individuals undergoing cancer treatment.

Active Ingredients:

Dosage Instructions: (In the absence of contrary instructions from a physician)

• Adults:

  • 100 to 200 mg daily for mild conditions.
  • 300 to 600 mg daily for moderate conditions.
  • 700-900 mg daily for severe cases.
  • The required dose based on body weight (mg/kg): 2 - 10 mg/kg of body weight per day.

• Children (under 15 years):

  • 10 to 20 mg/kg of body weight per day, with a maximum of 400 mg daily.
  • Use in children is rarely indicated, except in malignant cases (especially leukemia).
